Which Operating System Should I Choose for My Hosting?

The answer depends on the software your website needs.

If you want to use ASP or .NET pages together with an Access or MSSQL database, you should choose a Windows-based (2016) hosting package.

If you plan to use PHP, MySQL, CGI and Perl on your site, Linux-based (Ubuntu, Red Hat, etc.) hosting packages are the right choice for you.

Linux hosting packages are generally more affordable and stable than Windows hosting packages. Linux is preferred for security, while Windows is preferred for ease of use and installation.

If your site will not use dynamic files (ASP, PHP, etc.), it makes no difference whether you choose Windows or Linux.
