DNS records are settings that decide where requests to your domain go. You can manage them in Plesk under Websites & Domains > DNS Settings, and in cPanel under Domains > Zone Editor.
Most common records
| Record | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
| A | Points the domain to an IPv4 address. | yourdomain.com → 192.0.2.10 |
| AAAA | Points the domain to an IPv6 address. | yourdomain.com → 2001:db8::1 |
| CNAME | Points one name to another name (alias). | www → yourdomain.com |
| MX | Decides which server receives your e-mail. The lowest priority value is tried first. | 10 mail.yourdomain.com |
| TXT | Holds text. Used for SPF, DKIM, DMARC and Google/Microsoft verification. | v=spf1 a mx ~all |
| NS | Shows which servers manage the domain's DNS. | dns1.webevi.com |
| CAA | Decides which companies may issue SSL certificates. | 0 issue "letsencrypt.org" |
Common tasks
- Using Google Workspace or Microsoft 365: Delete the existing MX records, add the MX records your provider gives you, and add the TXT record for verification.
- Pointing a subdomain to another service: For example, add a CNAME record for
shop. - Pointing the site to another server: Change the A record for
@andwwwto the new IP address.
Please note
- A name cannot have a CNAME record and another record at the same time.
- A domain should have only one SPF (v=spf1) TXT record.
- Changes take effect within a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the TTL value.
- DNS records are managed in the webevi panel only if your domain's NS addresses point to webevi.
