What is a Domain?

A domain, or domain name, is the address of a website on the Internet. Just like a physical address, a domain lets users reach a site easily. For example, www.korayteknik.com is a domain name, and this address points to the website hosted on the server behind it.

🌐 Technical Definition of a Domain

  • Every website actually works with an IP address (for example 192.168.1.1).

  • But IP addresses are hard for people to remember. That is why domain names are used instead of these IPs.

  • The domain you type into your browser is translated into the corresponding IP address by the DNS system, which directs you to the right server.

🧱 Structure of a Domain

A domain usually has two main parts:

  • Second-level domain: korayteknik and similar: represents the brand or site.

  • Top-level domain (TLD): .com, .net, .org, .tr and similar extensions.

Example: www.korayteknik.com.tr

  • korayteknik: second-level domain

  • .com.tr: top-level domain (commercial extension for Türkiye)

🛠️ What Does a Domain Do?

  • Creates a brand identity

  • Makes the website easy to reach

  • Gives a professional look with email addresses such as (info@korayteknik.com)

  • Plays a critical role in SEO and digital marketing
